Marshall Nordic Ski Team Athletes

On Saturday, November 17 several members of Marshall Nordic gathered to work on the soccer field access ramp. In the winter this ramp will be an important component of the Marshall Sprint Course. The philosophy on construction of the trail system at Marshall School has been to recover and use areas of the campus that had been neglected or under utilized. The hillside where the ramp is now located fit this definition to a T, it was a tansy covered, rocky slope. Through the kind donation of equipment and operators from Lakehead Construction the ramp was built from fill dirt and the existing slope. With winter snows fast approaching the administrators turned to the talented members of Marshall Nordic for help with covering the fill dirt with top soil, seeding, mulching and general clean-up.

The bulldozers have finished their work and now it is time for the members of Marshall Nordic to work their trail magic on our newest section of trail!  On Saturday, November 17, 2007 please join your coach to rake, seed and mulch the new section of the Marshall Sprints Course.  Bring strong garden type rakes, work gloves and your grubby clothes.  We will start at 9:00  am and work until about 2:00 pm The newest section of trail is what in the summer and fall will be the soccer field access ramp.  It is located directly behind the Mars Lakeview Hockey Arena.  Parents, skiers and friends are welcome to come and join in the fun!

Earlier this summer the Marshall School welcomed Barbara Brueggemann as the new head of school. Barbara is an accomplished cross country runner, former basketball player and a person who is very interested in all sports. As the Nordic ski coach and trail groomer at Marshall, I was very excited to welcome Barbara to the campus and show her around the ski trails. After an initial tour of the trails, I discovered that Barbara was more than just interested in the trails; she also wanted to be a part of maintaining the trails for running and skiing. I shared with Barbara my interest in hand mowing of the trails using a scythe. To my surprise, she asked me to do some research on scythes and to order one for her so that she could help with the mowing of the trails.

Snowflake Ski Swap Information

Snowflake Ski Center is located at 4348 Rice Lake Road.  The check in for gear to be sold will be this Friday, November 9 from 5-9 pm.  The Marshall Nordic Coaches will be on hand to help you determine the correct prices for gear to be sold.
