<p>The 6th Annual Marshall Sprints will be held at the <a href="http://www.marshallschool.org/" target="_blank">Marshall School</a> in Duluth, Minnesota on Friday, January 15, 2009.  The Marshall Sprints features an unique format to guarantee all varsity skiers at least two races for a total just over 4.5 kilometers of racing. All of the sprint racing will start and finish on the school football field. The sprint course averages 15 feet wide, with some sections as wide as 24 feet. The course is safe, fast and exciting. <a href="http://marshallnordic.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Marshall-Sprints-Course-20101.pdf">Marshall Sprints Course 2010</a> It will be a true test of your skier’s talent. We will have a separate Jr. High 3 kilometer skate race.</p>
<p><em><strong>Date: Friday, January 15, 2010</strong></em></p>
<p><strong>9:00 am</strong> bib pick up and course inspection</p>
<p><strong>11:00 am </strong> Sprint Qualifier</p>
<p><strong>12:30 pm</strong> 3.5 k race and Jr. High 3k</p>
<p><strong>2:00 pm</strong> Single elimination sprint heats top 30 boys and 30 girls <a href="http://marshallnordic.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/sprint-diagram-for-30-athletes-owg-wsc-wc-no-final.pdf">Sprint Form</a> No B final.  Coaches please download the Sprint Form and explain it to your athletes.  In the quarter finals and semi-finals the top two skiers from each round advance as well as the top two fastest times from the previous heat.  Skiing fast even if in 3rd or 4th place can earn you a spot in the next round</p>
<p><strong>3:30 pm</strong> Awards indoors in the Marshall School Cafeteria.</p>
<p>Format:<br />
All skiers (except Jr. High) will ski a 1 kilometer qualifying sprint race on the sprint course.  The top 30 girls and top 30 boys will qualify for the single elimination sprint heats. All other skiers qualify for the 3.5 kilometer short course event.   Fastest overall times will determine final 3 kilometer short course race placement.</p>
<p>Entry Fee:  $5 per skier.  Checks made out to Marshall School</p>
<p>Entries Due: All entries need to be received by 5:00 pm Wednesday,January 13, 2010</p>

<p>Awards:</p>
<p>Awards to the top 10 boys and girls 3 kilometer race and Jr. High 3k race. Awards to the top 6 skiers in the single elimination sprint heats. Top 3 boys and top 3 girls in Sprints and 3 kilometer race will receive a Billboard Bag Ski Bag.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.d.umn.edu/unirel/homepage/05/raymond-portr.jpg" align="right" border="2" height="300" hspace="4" vspace="2" width="200" />High school nordic skiers participating in the <a href="http://marshallnordic.org/2007/10/24/marshall-sprints-high-school-nordic-ski-race/" target="_blank">Marshall Sprints</a> are in for an aural treat! <a href="http://rodraymond.com/index.php" target="_blank"> Rod Raymond</a>, Master Personal Trainer, accomplished athlete, and motivational speaker has agreed to be the race announcer for the 4th annual sprints to be held on Saturday, January 12 at the <a href="http://www.marshallschool.org/school/johnson/sprintcoursemap.htm" target="_blank">Marshall School Sprint Course</a>.   In sprint races, good announcing is key to maintaining the flow of the event, keeping the athletes and spectators informed and entertained.  With his amazing background in sport, business and personal coaching Rod is a great addition to the Marshall Sprints.</p>
<p>More about Rod:</p>
<p><span id="more-81"></span></p>
<p>Rod Raymond (M.Ed., ACSM)  is one of a few ACE, Master Personal Trainers in the country. He has been in the business of helping others achieve their dreams and strive for optimal health  for over 15 years.</p>
<p>Rod is the wellness director at the University of Minnesota, a 20-time Ironman Triathlon and a current doctoral student at the University of Minnesota.</p>
<p>A two-time Olympic trials participant, an international champion of the Scottish Coast-to-Coast adventure race, the Trans Swiss triathlon , the Border-to-Border triathlon and and the Swiss Gigathlon.  Upon winning the Swiss Gigathlon (the world&#8217;s toughest race) Rod was noted among the fittest athletes in the world by two different publications.</p>
<p>Rod has shared his philosophy that life should be lived &#8220;inside out vs. outside in&#8221; to thousands of people throughout the world with his books, videos and seminars.</p>
<p>He is also the owner of the successful Fitger&#8217;s Brewhouse, Red Star Club, Burrito Union and Old City Hall.   He has written several fitness books including: Quick Fitness and Marathlon training guides as well as his DVD series: &#8220;Be Your Own Personal Trainer&#8221;</p>
<p>Rod is a father and supports many  organizations promoting meaningful things</p>
