Summer Training Programs

Posted by Dave Johnson on May 8th 2008 in Training Information, Team Communication, Events

Just another month of school and then a great three months of summer!  What are you going to do to stay in great shape for the sports that you love? Here are two excellent possibilities for skiers in the Duluth area:

Summer Youth Program Registration Open

Registration is open for DXC’s third annual Summer Youth Training Program (June 9—August 1). Coached by André Watt, Anders Osthus, and Nikolai Anikin, the eight-week program offers morning or afternoon sessions of ski-specific activities (roller skiing, strength, ski-walking, etc.). It’s a fun way to build and maintain fitness, learn from experienced coaches, and get to know athletes from other schools. Subsidized by proceeds from the Banff Mt. Film Festival, the program costs only $75 for the summer.

Duluth Rowing Club

Pre-season registration is now open for the Duluth Rowing Club. The DRC provides instruction, coaching and daily training for Jr. High, Senior High and Adult folks interested in an exciting and fun sport. The open house for the Duluth Rowing Club will be on Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 10am to 12 noon.

Followed by:

Junior Parent Meeting
Saturday May 17 @ 12:00pm

We will be meeting with all Junior Rower Parents after the Open House.

North American Championships and U.S. Masters Biathlon Championships

March 20-22, 2008 at Mt. Itasca, Coleraine, MN.

Information Pdf

Dear Biathlon Supporters-
The North American Championships/ US National Championships will be held at Mt Itasca next week- March 20, 21, 22, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. We are short on officials/volunteers to help on the Range, Course, Stadium, and Doping Control. Generally volunteers are needed from 9pm-1pm, though some may be needed earlier in the morning. Note that with changing weather conditions, races may start earlier than initially planned.

This is the biggest biathlon event yet to be held at Mt Itasca- we hope that any parents, ex-athletes or long time supporters would be interested in coming up to watch and help out running the races.

If you can come up for one, two, or all three days to help out, please email oonadog@northlc.com or call 218/245-3522 Paula Byrne, Volunteer coordinator, with the dates you can come up, and what tasks you would prefer to help with.

Coach Nikolai Anikin Wins Mora Vasaloppet

Mora Vasaloppet Coverage
February 10, 2008 by Bruce Adelsman
A surprising number of hardy skiers turned out for one of the coldest Mora Vasaloppet races on record, braving wind chills in the 30-below range and temperatures in the double-digits below zero. All categories, 58km, 35km, and classic division, skied the same 35km course over slow and sandpaper-like snow. Skiers had two allies, however: bright sunshine and the strong wind coming out of the north/northwest which pushed them from Warman down to the finish in Mora. Skiers fragmented into numerous small packs to combat the bitter cold and slow conditions, with an elite pack of just 5 skiers in the 58km division. To the excitement of those lining the streets of Mora, the big race came down to a sprint finish, with Nikolai Anikin just edging out friend Adam Swank at the line.
