Update from Paula Anderson on Wednesday, Dec 9 at 8:00 pm
Dear Coaches,
We are still looking good for Saturday, although it will be chilly! We received about 1 inch of fresh snow last night which helped freshen up the trails. The groomer was able to roll it and set the teeth down for some corduroy and it was surprisingly good today. To be on the safe side I would recommend rock skis still, although some of my boys are planning on using their good skis. One option for skiers is to bring both, warm up on the rock skis and then make the call. The rocks are mainly in the center of the downhills on the power line going out and in the center of the last long downhill on the Bambas trail coming back to the stadium. They will be marked with pine boughs and they are easily avoidable as long as skiers stay on the right or left side of the downhills. The stadium area is a little rough as far as snow goes. . . it is windblown and uneven with a few rocky spots. But, generally speaking the course is in pretty good shape considering the year.
Now on to the weather. I’ve checked both weather underground and the NOAA site and they are running pretty much the same. Temps at 11 am on Saturday are predicted to be 0 degrees to +2 degrees above zero. The high is predicted to be 6-9 degrees at 3 pm. The good news is that they are predicting wind speeds of only 1-2 mph. Our course is 90% in the woods so I think we should be fine. If need be we can make the decision to push back to noon for our start at our 10 am coaches meeting.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. If we get more snow between now and Friday night I will let you know. .. it is in the forecast.
Thanks much and see you on Saturday.
Paula
