Marshall Nordic Ski Team Athletes

The Marshall Nordic Ski Team places 1st and 2nd at the 2009 Lake Superior Conference Nordic Ski Championships held on January 27, 2009 at Snowflake Nordic Ski Center.

Girls:  The Marshall Nordic Girls Team placed 1st today at the LSC Championship races.  Led by senior captain Sarah Johnson, the Hilltoppers cruised to an 11 point victory over second place Duluth Central.  Sarah placed first in the combined classic / freestyle race by1minute 54 seconds over second place finisher Sophia LaFond of Duluth Central.  Junior Lydia Jacobs finished in third after two excellent races.  Eighth grader, Kemin Fena placed 6th and sophomore Lee Weintruab placed 7th.  Skiers placing in the top ten at LSC earn All Conference Honors.

Boys:  The Marshall Nordic Boys Team finished second by just one point to the 2009 LSC Champions, the Proctor Rails.  The Hilltopper boys were led by an outstanding performance by Junior Nick Power.  Despite losing a pole and falling in his skate race, Nick finished just 36 seconds back from Proctor’s Eric Rupert after two races.  Earning All Conference honors for the boys were junior Mitch Campbell (7th place) and eighth grader, Josef Fairbanks.  Also scoring for the Marshall boys was senior Thomas Hodge in12th place.

The Marshall Nordic team competes next at the Cook County Invite on Friday, Jan 30, 2009.
